Design Estimation Tool (DET), is an open source, user-friendly android based application that helps prepare the proposed engineering design as well as the cost and labour estimation for soil and moisture conservation measures by feeding in, length, breadth and width of the proposed measure.
By pooling the design and estimates of such proposed measures the efficiency in the preparation of Detailed Project Reports could be improved thus reducing the dependence of local communities on engineers who are usually limited in numbers and are placed at the Block level. It improves planning of natural resource management activities at local level for support under MGNREGA or similar programmes on land and water management. It also contributes to building a trained rural cadre who can prepare plans as per local needs.
The India Observatory, led by Foundation for Ecological Security (FES), is a collaborative action-oriented tech initiative. It aims to demystify and present comprehensive information on India’s social, ecological and economic parameters on a single spatial and temporal platform.
